The National Native Title Conference 2015 ‘leadership, legacy and opportunity’ was convened with the Cape York Land Council (CYLC) and hosted by the Kuku Yalanji people on the traditional lands in Port Douglas Queensland. The Conference was an opportunity for people to come together and engage in debate, including native title holders and claimants, traditional owners, native title representative bodies and service agencies, the Federal Court, National Native Title Tribunal, Commonwealth and State government agencies, academics, consultants and industry representatives.
The program included one day of closed workshops for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their native title representative bodies and service providers, followed by a two day public program. The Public Program was open to all delegates and included keynote speeches, dialogue forums, Indigenous Talking Circles, workshops as well as papers presented by native title holders and claimants, practitioners, researchers, Government representatives, academics and staff representing Native Title Representative Bodies or Native Title Service Providers.
AIATSIS hosted a National Prescribed Bodies Corporate Meeting on Monday 15 June 2015 prior to the conference. The meeting gave the Prescribed Bodies Corporates an opportunity to network and discuss issues at a national level in a closed session.
